After years of hanging in the balance, Dothan residents are getting impatient for the Ross Clark Circle expansion project to begin.
Dothan City Retiree Jerry Richards voiced his concerns to City Commissioners at yesterday`s commission meeting. He urged the commission to stop allowing the state to give excuses as to why the expansion has not been completed after about twenty years of D.O.T. delays.
The city has made some headway in getting the D.O.T. to change the seven lane design, which included a continuous turning lane, also known as a suicide lane...the new design will have six lanes with access roads crossing at various locations.
Many millions have been spent, and if we don`t start there will be another two to three year delay. Five or six years ago, past state administration told the public that there would be 20 million dollars, federal and state funds, to complete the project.
Mayor Sowell says a five year plan for the circle is now in place, but he also agrees that the delays are getting out of hand...with millions of dollars spent on designs. There`s still another two year delay expected.
