In just a few weeks, our country will commemorate the anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks...as that day draws nearer, many groups are already preparing to remember those who lost their lives on that awful day three years ago.
That includes the Wiregrass Veterans Alliance, which will hold a Veterans Rally on September 11th, between noon and 3 o`clock at the Wiregrass Rehabilittion Center here in Dothan.
Local, state and federal leaders will all be on hand to speak to area veterans about issues that affect them. War Veteran Marshall Smith says our country still has a long way to go, but over the years great strides has been made in it`s support of veterans.
Mr. Smith, of the Wiregrass Veteran`s Affairs, says that the VA Hospitals within the last ten years have improved tremendously, and here in Alabama, we have the GI Bill which is education for dependants, and there are more people receiving VA compensation than ever before.
U.S. Congressman Terry Everett will be at the rally, and coordinators hope to have representation from the Governor`s office as well. They are expecting about two hundred local vets and their families to attend.
For more information about the rally, call the State Department of Veterans Affairs at 677-4749.
