breaking news
New overtime laws mandated by the Federal Government went into effect yesterday.
The new rules have many asking a lot of questions...but they are questions that even the Bush Administration can`t really answer. The Department of Labor and the Bush Administration can`t seem to agree or say what the impact of this law will be.
What we do know for now...workers who are eligible must earn less than $23,660 a year, and currently that is about 1.3 million people. However, professionals making more than $100,000 a year are not eligible for overtime.
Also, workers generally exempt from overtime pay are executive assistants, chefs, journalist, Human Resource Managers and many more. The City of Dothan, which is one of the Wiregtrass`s largest employers says that city employees won`t feel the overtime pinch or boost, because city officials are prepared.
Like the City of Dothan, many local employers say the law won`t affect them. To protect your interest, or if you have questions, you can call the Department of Labor, or go to their website, www.icfa.org.
