VACANT HOUSTON COUNTY COMMISSION SEAT

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
Since Commissioner Wylie Yelverton announced his retirement earlier this month, the County Commission has a vacant seat to deal with. A few days ago, News 18 told you abut an upcoming Houston County General Election in January to replace Yelverton...the Commission Chairman, Mark Culver, now tells us that when all is said and done, the filling of the District One seat is going to be a lengthy process. Before Yelverton announced his retirement, commission members had discussed a potential process for appointing an interim representative, should a commissioner step down, but there was no resolution made. Some suggested that a special election be held for appointing a new commissioner, but that was determined to be too costly. The Houston County Commission will now have an empty seat until the first of the year.
