STARTING JANUARY 1, 2004, THE CITY OF DOTHAN WILL NO LONGER PICK UP TRASH FROM LOCAL PRIVATELY-OWNED APARTMENT COMPLEXES.
KATHERINE BARFIELD, PROPERTY MANAGER OF ROLLING HILLS APARTMENTS, SAYS SHE`S UPSET WITH THE CITY`S DECISION TO STOP PICKING UP TRASH AND FEELS COMPLEX OWNERS SHOULD GET PROPERTY TAX REBATES FOR THIS INCONVENIENCE, BUT CITY MANAGER JERRY CORBIN SAYS THE SERVICE HAS COST DOTHAN TOO MUCH MONEY IN THE PAST, SO FOR NOW, THEY`RE GOING TO HAVE TO BEAR THEIR OWN TRASH BURDENS.
CORBIN SAYS TENANTS WHO REFUSE TO ABIDE BY THE NEW LAW WILL FACE CHARGES FOR LITTERING AND IMPROPER DISCARDING OF WASTE.
