Doctor Ken Clark deals with animals everyday and understands the importance of keeping them warm when the weather turns cold...
"We`re concerned about the very young and the very old. They can`t handle these drops in the temperature," says Clark.
When the temperature hits the 40 or below, it`s a good idea to have a plan concerning your pet. Bringing them inside or giving them some type of shelter, for warmth, is better than the bitter cold.
Clark says to "Get them out of the wind and rain and be sure to give them more extra food if they are an outside pet,".
Outdoor pets lose energy by using their muscles to produce heat, therefore, officials recommend giving them more food.
No matter what size pet you have, it`s a good idea to invest in a sweater or jacket, that way it`ll stay warm during the winter months.
"I think the pets feel more comfortable and the owners feel more at ease," say Clark.
When it comes to pet safety, staying attentive and using common sense can make all the difference in your "buddy`s" disposition.
