CARVER SITE MAY BE HABITAT PROPERTY

Updated: January 7, 2009
There were some heated discussions in the Dothan City Commission meeting today over what should be done with the old Carver High site. Alumni desire one thing and one local organization wants something total different. Representatives from the Wiregrass Habitat for Humanity organization have been trying for weeks to get the commission to approve their mission to build habitat homes where Carver High School once stood saying the houses would be a great addition to the District 2 community, but Carver alumni Ed Vaughn and City Commissioner Amos Newsome says those who live near the property want the city to build a community outreach center instead of more lower income housing. Habitat officials say they respect the residents of District 2 and their desire is only to help the community grow in a positive direction. The commission will make a final decision on the property in a few weeks after they`ve had a chance to review all alternative options. live tami page, the director of the wiregrass habitat for humanity says the organization builds all types of homes that appraise from 50,000 to 75,000 dollars in just about anytype of neighbor.....they`ve even built a few in houston heights district#4 where commissioner jason rudd resides.>> ¤6 ]] C1.5 G 0 [[ JOHN ON CAM ¶jm on cam thanks crystal.
