Seniors in Taylor will soon have a new senior citizens center thanks to a grant from the Alabama department of economics and community affairs.
The notification letter was presented to the mayor of Taylor today by senator Harri Anne Smith in a room full if delighted seniors. The mayor along with representative Joe Caruthers, Robert Crowder, and many others have worked for some time trying to secure the money from the government to rebuild.
Right now the Taylor senior center serves 178 seniors in the town. When they build their new 48,000 square foot facility they hope to increase the number of senior members. The mayor has not yet set a date to break ground but says the center will have a walking trail, gazebo, and a playground for children.
