From blocked corners to abandoned cars, the city of Dothan has too many problems for one person to solve.
Thats why these police officers recently took on a new title: Their called the "Enviornmental Compliance Bureau,".
"It didnt take long to realize the city of Dothan has alot of important, life issues that need to be taken care of. For instance, overgrown grass, abandoned cars, blocked corners, etc." says Chief John White.
For years, one officer has been in charge of the entire citys problems. It can be an overwhelming job, so the Dothan Police Department decided to attack the problem and add additional personnel.
"Its a big job. We stay busy and have lots to do," says Officer Summers.
"Busy" is an understatement..They handle the majority of complaints that are called into the police department.
"Our job is to enforce city ordinances, help people get in compliance and provide information on what they can and cant do," says Summers.
There are hundreds of city ordinances and if you decide to break the rules, your fine could be up to a $500 fine or jailtime.
They dont expect to solve all the problems but they are well on their way.
"It`s been a huge success," says Officer Goguen. "We just want to clean up Dothan and make it safe for everyone,".
