By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
Production of methamphetamine, a popular and a highly addictive stimulant has drastically increased in rural areas in the past three years. Thats mainly because the availability of anhydrous ammonia, a chemical used to cook the drug, is higher because of its common use in farming. And thats usually where the theft of the chemical occurs, but this weekend someone tried to steal it from Tri-State Plant Food. The plant has two anhydrous ammonia tanks on its grounds that police say someone tried to penetrate with the intention of producing methamphetamine. The attempt was unsuccessful. Tri-State officials say they have stepped up their security. While thieves were unable to get the chemical this time, their getting from somewhere. Meth labs have grown in Alabama from 30 in 1999 to more than 201 in 2002 and those numbers are on the rise.
