GAMBLING ISSUE TO POP UP AGAIN

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
Gambling will not come up during the special legislative session, but it will be on the agenda next year when lawmakers reconvene in Montgomery for their regular session. In fact, State Representative John Rogers has gone as far to say he`ll introduce a measure allowing casinos in the state while other lawmakers say they`ll resurrect a lottery proposal. Chances for passage could be higher this time since the state is facing a financial dilemma. The talk of more legalized gambling is recurring and the people of the state are still divided in their feelings. There is still a debate on how much money a lottery or casinos would actually add to the state treasury. Supporters of the gamling issue say it could help the state treasury while opponents contend that gambling is no way to solve the state`s money problems. They also point to the moral issue of more legalized gambling in Alabama. JANA JACOBS-REPORTER WDHN
