A Houston County jury found Thursday (8/21) guilty of capital murder in the death of an elderly Wickburg woman. The jurors deliberated less than three hours before returning the verdict. Walker was one of two people to stand trial in connection with the 2001 home invasion robbery and shooting death of 87-year old Bessie Lee Thweatt. Rex Beckworth was convicted earlier and sentenced to death. A day later, the jury recommended a sentence of death for Walker. Circuit Judge Larry Anderson is not bound by the recommendation but, in most case, a judge will hand down the penalty suggested by the jury.
