Many names have been thrown out over the last 18 hours to replace Mal Moore as Athletic's Director as the University of Alabama.

But when Bill Battle's name surfaced this morning as the likely replacement, it may have caught many by surprise. But when you look back at the history of Bill Battle...you find that his credentials make him an obvious choice to take over the post.

Battle is a native of Birmingham and a graduate of the Capstone. He was a former player and assistant for the legendary Paul "Bear" Bryant and eventually took the head coaching job at the University of Tennessee.. a position he held for seven years.

During his time in Knoxville, Battle put together a 59-22-2 record. He was forced out in his final season.

Battle worked outside of college football for several years before starting the Collegiate Licensing Company in 1981. His first licensing agreement was signed with his former coach. His first university to sign on to a licensing agreement was Alabama.

The CLC is not the oldest and largest marketing agency dedicated to providing domestic and international licensing on the collegiate level. The CLS represents over 200 colleges, universities, bowls and conferences as well as the NCAA and The Heisman Trophy.

Bill served as the company's president and CEO until 2002 when he turned the day-to-day operations over to his son Pat. In 2007, CLC was acquired by IMG, the world's premier sports, entertainment, and media company. CLC operates as a business unit with IMG College, and Bill remains active in the company and its related businesses.

Bill also served as chairman of the board of Licensing Partners International. LPI was created in 2001 to represent the licensing interests of non-collegiate sports properties, as well as corporate and entertainment properties.
