Vanderbilt Knocks Off Arkansas

NASHVILLE - Rod Odom scored a game-high 20 points and Kyle Fuller added 19 Thursday as 10th-seeded Vanderbilt knocked off seventh-seeded Arkansas 75-72 at the Southeastern Conference Tournament at Bridgestone Arena.

Vanderbilt (15-16) advances to face second-seeded Kentucky (21-10) at 7:30 p.m. ET Friday at Bridgestone Arena in a game that will be carried by the SEC Network.

The Commodores shot 41.1 percent (23-of-56) from the field in the game, while the Razorbacks shot 43.6 percent (24-of-55). Arkansas out-rebounded Vanderbilt 39-37.

Odom's 20 points tied his career high and also included a career-high five three-pointers made. He also swatted a career-high four blocks. Fuller added 19 points with three three-pointers, while Kedren Johnson chipped in 13 points and Dai-Jon Parker tallied 11. Odom and Parker each brought down a team-high nine rebounds.

Vanderbilt, which led by as many as 16 points with just over 11 minutes to go in the game, watched its lead dwindle down to as few as two points in the game's final minute.

Arkansas (19-13) was led by a team-high 16 points from B.J. Young. Series Notes:
    All-Time Series:  Arkansas leads 18-11.

Earlier this Season:  the teams split a pair of games, Arkansas winning 56-33 in Fayetteville and Vanderbilt winning 67-49 in Nashville
    
Game Notes:
    Trailing 9-7, Vanderbilt went on a 24-8 run and took a 14-point lead at 31-17.  The Commodores led the remainder of the game.
    Arkansas ended the first half on a 7-1 run and cut VU's lead to 38-30 at intermission.
    In the second half, Vanderbilt stretched the lead to as many as 16 points at 59-43.
    The Commodores still led by 13 points, 64-51, with 6:36 to play when Arkansas rallied.  
o    The Razorbacks' 17-6 run cut the lead to 70-68 and had a chance to tie but missed a shot with 29 seconds left.
o    VU made five of six foul shots in the closing seconds, including four of four by Kedren Johnson, and held on for the victory.
    Arkansas actually made more field goals (24 to 23) and free throws (20 to 17) than Vanderbilt, but the Commodores' 12 three-pointers made the difference.

Vanderbilt Notes:
    Vanderbilt is 15-16 and the Commodores have won five of their last six games.
    Relying heavily on the three-pointer this season, Vanderbilt made 12 of 28 (42.9 percent) tonight.
o    VU is 11-3 this season when making at least nine three-pointers in a game.
    Rod Odom had a stat-stuffing line tonight --    
o    20 points, tying his career high
o    Seven rebounds, one short of his career high
o    Career-high four blocked shots
o    Three assists and two steals
    Kyle Fuller scored 19 points, most by him this season against an SEC opponent
    Kedren  Johnson tallied 13, including four of four foul shots in the closing seconds, and had five assists
    Dai-Jon Parker contributed 11 points and seven rebounds
    Looking ahead to Friday, VU had a pair of close losses to Kentucky earlier this season, 60-58 in Nashville and 74-70 in Lexington
    
Arkansas Notes:
    Arkansas is 19-13.
    Arkansas won points in the paint tonight, 36-18.
    B.J. Young led the Razorbacks with 16 points.  
    Marshawn Powell had 13 points and a game-high nine rebounds.
