Wrestling Legend From Alabama Dies

Updated: March 6, 2013

William Moody, who made Alabama his home and is best known for his WWE wrestling character Paul Bearer, died Tuesday night.  The exact cause of death was not immediately known though Moody, who was 58, had suffered health problems in recent years.

Moody left his mark on wrestling fans along the Gulf Coast when he was known as Percy Pringle.  Throughout his career, he managed several prominent wrestlers including Stone Cold Steve Austin, Ravishing Rick Rude, Ultimate Warrior, and Lex Lugar.

However, it was his performances as Paul Bearer than gained Moody international fame.  He accompanied wrestling legend The Undertaker to the ring for several years. Ironically, Moody himself was a funeral director in real life.

Moody was a good friend of WDHN's "Top of the Morning Show" host Charlie Platt and the two stayed in touch over the years and appearing at wrestling reunions.  Platt is a former ringside announcer who broadcast matches across the southeast.

He was preceded in death by his wife who passed away in 2009 from breast cancer.  Two sons survive.
