Robbie Joe Riley Johnson

Robbie Joe Riley Johnson, a resident of the Pleasant Plains Community of Houston County, died Monday night, March 4, 2013, at her home. She was 81.

            Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Thursday, March 7, 2013, in the Pleasant Plains Baptist Church with Reverend Ricky Sowell and Reverend Tom Chestnut officiating. Graveside services will follow in the church cemetery with Reverend Ray Cobb and Covenant Hospice Chaplain Tim Stevenson officiating.  Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Wednesday at the mortuary in Headland.

            Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Covenant Hospice, 104 Rock Bridge Road, Dothan, AL 36303.

            Mrs. Johnson was born in the Blackwood community of Henry County but moved with her family to Donalsonville as a child. She was the daughter of the late Azzie Pate Riley and Rosa Clee Brackin Riley. Mrs. Johnson was a 1948 graduate of Seminole County High School in Donalsonville and also received a Business Degree from Riley Business College in Dothan. She retired in 1992, due to disability, from the Houston County High School lunchroom in Columbia. She was also formerly employed by Warner's and Carmichael Wholesale both in Dothan. Mrs. Johnson was a member of the Pleasant Plains Baptist Church where she formerly taught Sunday School and was active in various church activities.  In earlier years, she and her late husband were in charge of the Houston County High School Quarterback Club booth at the National Peanut Festival.

            Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her husband, Wellborn Darrell Johnson, Sr., a son, Tommy Pate Johnson, three sisters, Jeanette Riley, Lillian Palmer and Ouida Mae Swain and her husband, Bill Swain.

            Surviving relatives include a daughter, Beverly Teat and husband, Dennis, Columbia; a son, Wellborn Darrell Johnson, Jr., Ashford; six grandchildren, Justin Johnson, Jordan Johnson, Jayla Pruitt (Dustin), Jamie Sewell (Nick), Pate Johnson (Lacey), and Jason Snellgrove (Tina); nine great-grandchildren, Anna Brooke, Paislee Jo,  Thomas Hunter, Bailey, Teana, Cameron, James Austin, Mackenzie, and Hunter; exchange grandchildren and great-grandchildren from Poland: Peter, Milena, Amelia, Agatha, Jack, Pola, Iga, Gosia, Michael, Kasper, and one on the way; a brother-in-law,  A. J. Palmer, Tallahassee; former daughters-in-law, JoAnn Preston, Columbia; Beth Cain, Ashford; and Linda Johnson, Slocomb; several nieces and nephews.

            Serving as active pallbearers will be Brian McCraney, Daniel Shelley, Riley Palmer, Stefan Pedler, Pate Johnson, Jamie Henderson, Jason Snellgrove, Wyman Gamble, and Frankie Griffin. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the Seminole County High School Class of 1948.

            The family would like to express their appreciation to Covenant Hospice, Sonya Snow, Tasha Tyree, Kim Enfinger, Sara McKee, Ed and Nell Helmer, Chaplain Tim Stevenson, Hope Scroggins, Judy Shinholster, Stella Barnes, Michelle Prescott, Twanna Young, Dr. Melanie Nicholls, Carolyn Hornsby, Beth Kenward, Marilyn Singletary, Brenda Mullins, Kim Fields and Cherly Kelly, Dr. Russell Bedsole, Candice Reneau,  Kimberly Dean, Dr. Lewe West and Molly Hatton for the loving care and kindness shown to our Mother during her illness.
