John P. Roberts

John P. Roberts, 89, of Dothan, Alabama went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on March 3, 2013.
John was born on May 15, 1923. He lived throughout south Alabama as the son of a Methodist minister. In 1943, he volunteered for and was inducted into the U.S. Army Air Corps. A patriotic citizen and servant of the Greatest Generation, John served our nation honorably as a fighter pilot during WWII. Upon completion of military service, John eventually settled in Gonzales, Florida, and was employed as a Design Engineer for St. Regis Paper Company where he retired after more than 30 years. He later moved to Dothan, Alabama where he lived for the past 10 years. John was a loving and caring husband and father, and a faithful member of the Hickory Grove Free Will Baptist Church, Abbeville, Alabama. He was an avid model airplane enthusiast who dearly loved aviation and flying. He will be missed greatly by all who knew him.
He is survived by his loving and caring wife of ten years, Aneita S. Roberts; three sons, Max Roberts, Joseph Roberts, and Bill Roberts, and one daughter Deborah Rogers; additionally he is survived by eleven step-children, Barbara Parker, Susie Wilson, William Parker, Samuel Parker, Ricky Parker, Wanda Morgan, Marianne Miller, Cora Smith, Marcus Smith, Denise Meadows and Tammy Chaplin. There are seventeen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
John was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Jewell S. Roberts.
Visitation will be 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at Eastern Gate Memorial Funeral Home, Pensacola, Florida. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 p.m. with the Rev. Greg Ramsey and Rev. Chris Dobbs officiating and Eastern Gate Funeral Home directing. Byrd Funeral Home has charge of local arrangements.
