Sara Owens Walden

Sara Owens Walden, a resident of Headland, passed away, Saturday morning, March 2, 2013, at her home. She was 91.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, March 4, 2013, in the Worship Center of the First Baptist Church of Headland with Dr. Cecil M. Sanders, Jr. and Reverend Norman Simmons officiating. Burial will follow in the Headland Baptist Cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Monday in the Worship Center.
Mrs. Walden had been a member of the First Baptist Church of Headland since 1941. She was also a member of the Joy Sunday School Class and a former member of the Women's Missionary Union. Mrs. Walden was a 1941 graduate of Headland High School. She was the widow of Joe Dave Walden of Headland and the daughter of the late R.L. (Rip) Owens and Rittie Bradshaw Owens of Tumbleton. Mrs. Walden was predeceased by her son, Joseph Owens Walden, her sisters, Lucy Owens Roney, Annette Owens Gamble, Inez Owens Kirkland, and brothers, Hasten Owens, and Richard Owens. Mrs. Walden was also predeceased by sisters-in-law, Roberta Walden Lashley, Louise Shelley Walden and Marjorie Gamble Owens.
The family requests no flowers, but contributions may be made to the "Bridge To Tomorrow" Building Fund of the First Baptist Church of Headland, 301 East Church Street, Headland, AL 36345.
"Mama Sa", as she was affectionately known by her family, spent her life devoted to her husband, her children, her home and her extended family and friends especially her lifelong friend, Frances McArdle.
Mrs. Walden is survived by her daughter, Sara W. Holman and husband, Norman D. Holman, Sr., Headland; her daughter-in-law, Ginger Morris and husband, Jimmy Morris, Headland; five grandchildren, Dugg Holman, David Holman, Joe Walden, Jill Walden and Holly Burks; eight great-grandchildren, Jenna Holman Mead, Craig Holman, Kathryn Holman, Asia Tew, Sabrina Holman, Anna Cate Burks, Claire Burks, and Owen Burks; a great-great-granddaughter, Brooklynn Templeton, and a great-great-grandson, Shain Templeton. She is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Doris Owens of Headland, who was also a faithful caretaker, and Mary Walden of Alexander City, AL; and all of her many beloved nieces and nephews.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Dugg Holman, David Holman, Joe Walden, Brendan Burks, Tom Roney, Chuck Owens, Chase Jones, Robert Gamble, Kevin McArdle, and Bobby Campbell.
