District Attorney Doug Valeka sent a strong message to burglars Tuesday morning. Valeska said he would no longer tolerate burglaries in Houston or Henry County.Valeska along with several law enforcement agencies came together to ask for stiffer penalties for burglars.
Dothan
Police have reported 116 burglaries since the start of 2013. Houston County
Sheriff's Office has reported 41 residential burglaries. Valeska
said if the criminals got tougher sentencing it could be different. "I'm
sick of burglars in Houston and Henry County. They're tearing up homes and
business. I want burglars in prison," said Valeska.
Valeska
not only wants the burglars to be punished but also the people who buy the
stolen goods. " If you buy stolen property we're going to prosecute you. I hear people say, I got it from someone on the
street. Great, 12 people will decide if that's legitimate or not,"
continued Valeska.
