Celia Calhoun Shaw, a resident of Headland, died at her home late Wednesday morning, February 20, 2013, surrounded by her loving family. She was 87.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, February 22, 2013, in the Headland United Methodist Church with Reverend Phil Craddock officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Friday in the church family life center.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Headland United Methodist Church Building Fund, 103 West King Street, Headland, AL 36345; or to the Burdeshaw-Solomon Senior Center, 107 Boynton Street, Headland, AL 36345; or to Covenant Hospice, 104 Rock Bridge Road, Dothan, AL 36303.
Mrs. Shaw was born and reared in Dothan, daughter of the late J.C. Calhoun and Mae Griffin Calhoun. She moved to Headland in 1946 where she was an active member of the Headland United Methodist Church and participated in the Burdeshaw-Solomon Senior Center. Mrs. Shaw was retired from the City of Headland as a clerk in the water department. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bennie A. Shaw, Sr.
Surviving relatives include four daughters, Annada Faircloth (Warren), Apalachicola, FL; Sara Leonard, Panama City Beach, FL; Nancy Lee Hatton, Lawrenceville, GA; Victoria Lynn Jenkins (Derrick), Headland; two sons, Bennie A. Shaw, Jr. (Teresa), Dothan; James C. Shaw (Sybil), Dothan; five grandchildren, Brian Hatton (Patricia), Scott Leonard, Dennis Shaw, Chrissy Hatton, and Captain Justin Shaw (Sara); nine great-grandchildren.
