The continuous flooding
had Ashford Mayor and the city council thinking it was time for a change, they
just didn't realize how quickly the change would come. The city council held an
emergency meeting Tuesday evening and decided to lease a vacant building on Old
Hwy. 84. They were already planning on moving the police department into the
property Wednesday, but at 3:00 a.m. they received a call that sped up that
process.
"I received a call from
a police officer saying there was no power, smoke and fumes were starting to
fill the building and our dispatch unit was down. We called the fire chief and
he came out and shut everything down and we are now set up shop in city hall" explained
Grecu.
The Ashford Police
Department is expected to be out of the City Hall by Thursday and they will
operate in the new building for the next six months. Once the lease is up, the
city has the option to purchase the property, which will house there tag office
and municipal court.
