Leon Turner

Leon Turner, a resident Dale County, between Midland City and Echo, died late Monday afternoon, February 11, 2013, at his home. He was 78.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, February 14, 2013, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Dr. Carl Warden, Reverend Stephen Windham, and Mr. Harvey Windham officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory, between Headland and Dothan. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Thursday at the mortuary in Headland.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the New Hope Free Will Baptist Church, c/o JoAnn Ammons, 508 County Road 46, Midland City, AL 36350.
Mr. Turner was a native of Clayhatchee and was reared in the Christian Hill Community of Dale County by his foster parents, Carson and Lessie Foreman. He was preceded in death by his mother, Nellie Turner. Mr. Turner lived in Dale County all his life and was retired from WestPoint Stevens in Abbeville. In earlier years, he was employed by Dolly Madison Industries in Napier Field. Mr. Turner attended the New Hope Free Will Baptist Church.
Surviving relatives include his wife of fifty eight years, Lenora Windham Turner, Midland City; a son, Leon (Gene) Turner and wife, Cheryl, Midland City; a grandson, Korey Doswell; cousins, William Turner, Jr., Lee Ann Mays, Helen Kendall and husband, Wayne; brothers-in-law, Marvin Windham (Joan); Bascom Windham (Pat), Raphel Windham, Harvey Windham (Mary); sisters-in-law, Jewell Harrison and Mary Ellen Roberts, and a very good friend, Frances Whitfield.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Bascom Windham, Harvey Windham, Randy Windham, Steven Windham, Brian Shuemake, and Willie Joe Nellums.
