Robert Wayne Bowen

Robert Wayne Bowen, a resident of Abbeville, died late Monday night, January 28, 2013, in a Dothan hospital. He was 70.
Graveside services will be held at 1:30 P.M. Thursday, January 31, 2013, in the Abbeville Memorial Cemetery with a cousin, Pate Weems officiating. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends following the graveside services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Attn: Katie Rotton, 3054 McGehee Road, Montgomery, AL 36311.
Mr. Bowen was born in Columbus, Georgia, son of the late Robert Shepard Bowen and Inez Weems Bowen. He formerly lived in Detroit, Michigan and Newark, Delaware before moving to Abbeville in 1972. Mr. Bowen was retired from the Army National Guard in 1987 with the rank of Staff Sergeant. He also served his country in the U. S. Army and the U. S. Navy during the Vietnam era. Mr. Bowen also retired from Sparks State Technical College in Eufaula in maintenance. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Abbeville.
Surviving relatives include an aunt, Hulda Herndon Weems, an uncle, James Strickland and wife, Mary, all of Abbeville; and several generations of special cousins.
