For the second consecutive year, Wiregrass Electric Cooperative employees achieved a full calendar year with no lost-time accidents. This achievement represents roughly 244-thousand hours worked safely by Wiregrass Electric's 63 employees.
Wiregrass Electric continues to set the bar for safety standards in the electric distribution industry. The company's overall DART (Days Away/Restricted or Transfer) Rate is currently 1.71. The rate reflects the number of recordable injuries and illnesses for full-time employees that resulted in days away from work, restricted work activity and/or job transfer in any given timeframe. The Cooperative had only one recordable injury in 2012.
"Our employees work very hard to implement this culture of safety first - one hundred percent of the time," said Nathan Worsham, Wiregrass Electric Safety and Compliance Manager. "This is reflected in our excellent safety record for the second year in a row."
In 2012, Wiregrass Electric began a new safety initiative - 100% SAFE - EVERY DAY - EVERY LIFE - to provide emphasis on preventing incidents and injuries. It is designed to help supervisors and employees look at safety in a new way, so they can help each other work safely.
"Our safety program is designed to help our employees see safety in a new way by developing their safety awareness," said Michael McWaters, CEO of Wiregrass Electric. "Our number-one goal is for each employee to go home safely to their family at the end of every work day."
