Investigators said the burglar was in out of the business in a matter of eleven seconds, which has business owner, Herbert Harr thinking this was a well thought out plan. "The person who came in here knew exactly what to get because he didn't touch anything else except the expensive merchandise," explained Haar.
Owners said the case the thief targeted was full of diamonds and over 176 rings were taken. The burglar got the jewelry by using bricks to do what police call a "smash and grab." "Smash and grabs are where criminals break the window or door and they are in and out in about 10-15 seconds," explained Dothan Police, Lt. Will Benny.
Police said this type of break-in often happens in homes and cars and it's normally a well thought out plan. "Even though the "smash and grab" burglaries seem random, they are actually not. Most of these locations are pre-determined. Most of these suspects have been in before or someone they know has been in before and they've seen the jewelry and have a plan to get in and out quickly," continued Benny.
The burglar in Wednesday's break-in is still on the run and police said in most "smash and grab" cases the suspect is able to leave the scene before they arrive .Interco Coin and Jewelry is offering a $2,000 reward for any information regarding Wednesday's break
