Troy Students Took Closer Look At Safety After Co-Ed Rapes

The two alleged rapes in Troy last March forced Troy University students to take a closer look at their own safety.
It's
almost been a year since news broke and most have moved on, but some
are still taking special precautions to ensure their safety is still
intact.
Katie Meachem, a student at Troy, said she never would have thought bad could come to Troy.
"I didn't expect it to happen here. It was definitely eye opening," she said.
Lasonya
Hamilton, also a Troy student, said she has been making changes in how
she walks around the city since the alleged attacks.
"I just try to be aware of all of my surroundings. You can never be too sure if you are safe anywhere," she said.
Forrest
Albritton, who works at Troy Sport Shop, said a year ago many students
flocked to his store to buy things like mace and even handguns as
protection.
"We were selling almost two cases of mace a day then," said Albritton. "It's definitely not the same now as it was back then."
Albritton said many seem to have simply forgotten the danger.
"You
see the girls jogging by themselves early in the morning again and late
at night. I guess they think the guy was in jail and no one else could
do it," said Albritton.
