The Christmas chaos is
over and the rush to return gifts after the holidays has slowed down, but that
doesn't mean retail stores scaled back. This year many people that started out
as seasonal employees get to stick around. "We have the opportunity to pick and
choose the best and keep them on. This year we did keep about a third of our
seasonal employees," Myra McCraney, Manager of K-Mart Human Resources.
Before the holidays
McCraney gave about 70 people the good news that they were getting a job and after
it was over she got to give many of employee's even better news. "The ones that
we did keep were very excited because that's just a paycheck that they have
coming in and that's what they needed, they didn't need to be without," explained
McCraney, Many employees in Dothan said this is the best gift they received
this holiday season.
Hard work paid off for
many K-Mart employees that were chosen to stay permanently. Jackie Tyree is one
of those employees and said her job has created a lot of new opportunities, "We've
been able to do some other things that we haven't been able to do before," said
Tyree.
More opportunities may
continue to arise for these seasonal employees as K-Mart and many other
companies said some employees at the top of the ladder started out as seasonal
workers.
