A New Year means a new agenda for Houston County and Commission Chairman Mark Culver was back at work Tuesday ready to tackle a laundry list of items to take care of in 2013.
Culver said the top priority is new industry for the county. He said they're hoping to have one, possibly two companies in the Pemco building.
"We hope to have that accomplished in partnership with the city, Dale County, the airport authority, and the chamber sooner than later. That's just this month. We want to continue everyday to pursue jobs and industries for our citizens that's our number one focus," explained Culver.
In 2012 the county completed the prep work for the road widening project at the intersection of Fortner and Brannon Stand Road. Culver said he hopes this year the county can finally install a traffic light and turning lane at this intersection.
"We hope to start work on this project in the next couple of months. It's a heavily traveled road with the school nearby and the new subdivisions," continued Culver.
That's not the only road project on the agenda. Construction on Drew Road near the entrance of the medical college starts this week, and Culver said they want to complete all the Alabama Transportation Rehabilitation and Improvement projects by the end of the year.
