This year there was an added bonus;
the Wiregrass Foundation donated $400,000, which means over $2.9
million will be distributed to over 37 agencies in need across the Wiregrass.
The money will be used to help organizations like 2-1-1, The Wiregrass
Food Bank and many others.
Sonja Byrd, who has been with the United Way for over 21 years, said the organization is typically known
for giving, but when they achieve a campaign
goal they receive the reward.
"It's just exciting to know that
with the economy like it is we are able to provide the funding to the agencies
to help the needy of the wiregrass," explained United Way Executive Assistant Sonja Byrd.
Despite the state of
the economy, this is the largest amount of money the Wiregrass United Way and
its agencies have ever raised.
