Houston Academy handed out new laptops to students Wednesday in the school's cafeteria.

The new Mac Book Pro computers are a part of  a new initiative by school board members to make sure Houston Academy  is the most tech savvy school in the area.

Senior Christiaan Heersink said the new laptops have already proven to be a big help.  He said, "It has really helped us to be able to stream line our process of going to high school to college because this is what college is."

The computers allow the students to take notes and use special programs for class assignments. This is phase two of the school's plan. Phase one was earlier this year when all the teachers received Mac Books and elementary students received iPads.

Technology coordinator Melanie Woodcock said the new technology will help put the students a head of the curve.

"They will be prepared for college because they will have the opportunity to email in their papers, use technology for online courses, and eventually we will be moving to digital text books so they will be so tech savvy when we get to that point," said Woodcock.

Overall 390 students received laptops through the school's new initiative.
