A record number of calls from people in need have Wiregrass 2-1-1 asking for help. The organization is looking for volunteers to assist non-profit agencies to meet various needs. "For three days we had more calls coming into this center than any other 2-1-1 call center in Alabama," director David Duke said.
People are needed to help serve meals on Christmas Day, provide and wrap gifts for the needy, sort clothes, and assemble toys. The agencies looking for help include the Salvation Army, Rescue Mission, House of Ruth, Southeast Alabama Regional Council on Aging, and Wiregrass Hope Group.
"We have many wonderful agencies and programs that are doing everything they can to help those in need and, of course, they are going to need the volunteers to do it," said Duke. He said any amount of help can be utilized. "If you can only give a couple of hours it's needed."
There is a list of organizations needing help available here or view 2-1-1's Facebook page here.
