A Houston County judge ruled Monday there is enough evidence against a woman charged with feeding her seven week old child alcoholic beverage to send the case to a grand jury.
Angelica Devon Hawkins, 26, was arrested November 3 and charged with Aggravated Child Abuse. She is alleged to have given the infant sufficient alcoholic product to cause the child serious physical injury.
Court records show staff at Southeast Alabama Medical Center believe the infant was at great risk of slipping into a coma or suffering other dangerous effects. The child's Blood Alcohol Content, according to a complaint filed by police, was .386. A person is considered legally intoxicated when BAC reaches .08.
After hearing evidence, District Judge Benjamin Lewis ruled there is sufficient evidence to believe the crime of Aggravated Abuse has been committed by Hawkins. The case was bound over a grand jury to determine if the evidence is sufficient to warrant trial.
Hawkins is being held under $30,000 bond.
