Dothan, Other Wal-Mart's Potential Target Of Striking Workers

By: Staff Reports
Updated: November 19, 2012

A website representing views of some Wal-Mart workers claims strikes will take place Thursday at stores in Dothan, Enterprise, and Ozark as well as Sam's Club in Dothan.  The Organization United for Respect at Wal-Mart indicates more than fifty store locations in Alabama are targeted by employees forced to work on Thanksgiving Day. The retailer plans to open at 8:00 Thursday night to begin Black Friday sales.

While the stores in southeast Alabama are targeted on the OUR website there appears to be no leaders signed up for those specific locations.  It's not immediately clear if there will be any work stoppage at local stores.

OUR is seeking better wages and more predictable schedules for Wal-Mart employees.  The retailer has come under fire the past few years for treatment of their workers.  A company spokesperson said it expects only a small number of employees to participate.
