SEC TV Channel Expected for August 2014

Updated: September 19, 2012

According to reports, the SEC and ESPN are nearing a deal for a new SEC television channel.

Much like the process that occurred when the Pac-12 launched its network, the SEC must buy back rights that have been contracted out to other parties. These rights are said to include one football game, six to eight basketball games, and a variety of other sports such as baseball or soccer for each school in the conference.

Due to the value of SEC products, their deal is likely to be bigger than any other conference currently has.

As a part of the deal marketing rights to the SEC will be handed over to ESPN.

The SEC may be behind other conferences like the Pac-12 and the Big 12, it seems as if holding out may allow for an even greater deal to be made for the SEC channel.

Once the deal is done, the channel is rumored to go up in August 2014.
