A nationwide spread of a deadly disease has health officials here on alert.

Almost 700 cases of West Nile Virus have been reported across the country.

Alabama is not immune, as six cases have been seen this year.

The mild winter the state experienced and the large amounts of rain over the last few weeks have created a perfect breeding ground for mosquitoes.

A good breeding ground equals a larger mosquito population, and a better chance for families to be infected with this disease.
