Roads leading to the new medical college in Dothan are about to be under construction.

The state gave $2 million Thursday for improvements.

The announcement was made at Thursday's Houston County Commission administrative meeting.

This will be a joint effort between Dothan and Houston County. The county will resurface and widen Drew Road

The city will work on Cowarts Road. That road leads to the college from Highway 84.

County Commission Chairman Mark Culver said, the project will help ease traffic in the area of the new medical college.

"The work needed to be done to support the college. Certainly there's going to be a lot of people going in and out over there and we want it to be safe and  we want  an impressive road to get into the college," said Culver.

Houston County Engineer Mark Pool said the county could start on the Drew Road project as early as Tuesday.
