Speaker Mike Hubbard will deliver the commencement address at Troy
University's
graduation ceremony Friday, July 27 at 10:30 a.m. The ceremony will take
place at Sartain Hall, which is the University's sports arena.
Speaker Hubbard will challenge graduates to pursue their professional careers with confidence
and help distinguish their generation as among Alabama's greatest. The following is an excerpt from his prepared remarks:
"In this, Troy's 125th
year, you more than ever embody the mission of this institution: educate
the mind to think, the heart to feel and the body to act.
"We
use many different units of measurement in everyday life. We measure
water in
gallons or ounces. We measure our weight in pounds. We measure football
plays in yards. You may not know that when the weight of gold is
measured, we use units of 'troy.' I find that a fitting comparison to
this University. Many who came before you have given
this institution a golden reputation. And if, like the precious metal,
we measure the impact of this university in 'troy,' the bar for you has
been set very high indeed.
"It's
up to you to meet and exceed that bar and be a shining ambassador for
Troy
throughout this state, this country and beyond. So make us proud. Go
confidently forward and help make your generation of Alabamians our
greatest yet."
