Updated: July 13, 2012
Mr. Tim Wilder, Superintendent of Dothan City Schools, was presented with the "Power of One" award for his outstanding work during the 2012 Legislative Session.

The School Superintendents of Alabama (SSA), a professional organization for school superintendents across the state, presented the award to Mr. Wilder at the SSA Summer Conference in Pt. Clear on June 27, 2012. The award is presented to an individual who distinguishes himself through commitment, communication, and advocacy efforts.

Mr. Wilder provided solid, factual, and specific information to legislators on the problems created with the proposed charter school legislation. The award was presented by Lisa A. Woodard, Director of Governmental Affairs for School Superintendents of Alabama, who said, "Tim was fully committed to identifying the problems that the proposed charter school legislation would create for local school systems.

He was authentic in his beliefs, specific in detail, and passionate in his concerns because of his personal experience with charter schools in Florida.  When he spoke, legislators listened.  In fact, one of his legislators was so moved by his comments that he scheduled a meeting between House leadership and Mr. Wilder.

Tim was effective in communicating the concerns of SSA to leadership and legislators and that is the reason we are recognizing him with this award."
