MOBILE, Alabama -- Daleville safety Roman Buchanan became the eighth player to verbally commit to South Alabama's football program on Tuesday. The 6-foot-2, 198-pound senior-to-be informed the Jaguars' coaching staff that he intends to sign with the school on national signing day in February.

"The opportunity to make history,'' Buchanan said when asked what attracted him to the Jags' program. "As far as helping the school win its first conference championship, getting its first bowl win, those type of things. It's a place where I can help start a tradition for one thing. And they're losing three safeties this year so I will have a chance to play right away.
