Christie Joe Elliott, a resident of Haleburg, died early Sunday morning, July 1, 2012, at his home. He was 80.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Tuesday, July 3, 2012, in the Haleburg Baptist Church with Reverend Ray Cobb and Reverend Tim Morgan officiating. Burial will follow in the Haleburg Cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 3:00 P.M. Tuesday in the church sanctuary.

Christie Joe Elliott was a native of the Camp Springs Community of Henry County, son of the late John Jason (Buck) Elliott and Carrie Vassie Whatley Elliott. He moved with his family to Haleburg as a child where he lived his entire lifetime. Mr. Elliott was a graduate of Newville High School and served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War as an Air Policeman in England. He was a graduate of Wallace Community College in Dothan where he received an Electrical Associates Degree and also received a B.S. Degree in Vocational Technical Education from Athens State College in Athens, Alabama. Mr. Elliott retired from Sparks Technical College in Eufaula as an Electrical Instructor. For most his adult lifetime, he was self-employed as the owner and operator of Elliott's Plumbing and Electric.
Mr. Elliott was an active member of the Haleburg Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and participated in most church activities and was active in Carpenter's For Christ. He formerly served the Town of Haleburg as a councilman and as clerk of the council and also as Water Superintendent. Mr. Elliott was instrumental in the building of the W.R. Chambers Multi-Purpose Center. He also helped to provide Haleburg with a city water department and the Haleburg Fire Department. Mr. Elliott was preceded in death by two sisters, Wynelle Gordon and Mary Worsham and three brothers, Elbert Elliott, Scott Elliott and Harnage Elliott.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Jane Roberson Elliott; a daughter, Jan Elliott Hinson and husband, Terell; a son, Tim Elliott and wife, Robyn, all of Haleburg; a sister, Edis Yance and a sister-in-law, Patsy Ward Elliott, both residents of the Henry County Health & Rehabilitation Facility and both formerly of Haleburg; two grandchildren, Kelsey Elliott and John Jason (Jase) Elliott, two step-grandchildren, Leah Hinson Bond and husband, Christopher, and Judd Hinson; two step-great-grandchildren, Lucas Bond and Braxton Hinson.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Harnage Elliott, William Worsham, Richard Worsham, Terry Yance, Ronnie Yance, Jim Yance, Murray Yance and Herman Gordon.
