AUBURN - Auburn junior golfer Blayne Barber was named a 2012 All-Nicklaus Team Honoree on Thursday, the Golf Coaches Association of America announced. Players from Division I, II, III, NAIA and NJCAA were recognized for their outstanding play during the past collegiate season.

This season, Barber broke Auburn's 36-year-old single-season stroke average record with a 70.76 average, passing Buddy Gardner's 70.90 mark in 1976. Barber also set the Tigers' career stroke average record with 70.83 in his two seasons, surpassing Lee Williams' mark of 72.38. Barber finished in the top-5 seven times this season and finished in top-20 10 times.

The Lake City, Fla., native became the first Auburn golfer since 1995 to be named a First Team All-American. Barber named to the First Team All-SEC and the NCAA All-Southeast Regional Team.

The All-Nicklaus Team was created in 2008, and is not only named for history's greatest player but also a long-time supporter of collegiate and amateur golf. Jack Nicklaus, a Big Ten and NCAA Champion at The Ohio State University, helped inspire and create the Jack Nicklaus Awards in 1988. The Nicklaus Award is annually given to the top collegiate men's golfer in Divisions I, II, III, the NAIA and the NJCAA.
