Braves' Beachy has partially torn elbow ligament

Braves pitcher Brandon Beachy learned he has a partially torn ulnar collateral ligament, an MRI revealed on Monday. The right-hander will visit with Dr. James Andrews on Wednesday to see if he will need to undergo Tommy John surgery.

The team has lost seven of its last eight and may be without Beachy for at least the remainder of the 2012 season.

If Beachy needs surgery, experts say it would likely take a year to recover.

The Braves starter left his last start early against the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday night. He currently is the earned runs average leader in Major League Baseball with a 2.00 ERA.
