Valrie Named New Head Football Coach At Carroll High School

By: Staff Reports
Updated: May 29, 2012

Carroll High School has named a new head football coach following the death of its previous head coach.  Superintendent Michael Lenhart said Tuesday that Kenneth Valrie, an Eagles' assistant coach, will lead the team into the 2012 season.

"Coach Valrie finished second during the interview process after which Coach Stacy Waters was hired," said Lenhart.  Watters and his 10-year old son were killed May 23 in an Orlando, Florida traffic accident.

"Coach Valrie can carry our program in the upcoming year," according to Lenhart who said the coach was appointed without a search.  "He will carry on the hard work ethic instilled by Coach Watters and will not disrupt what has been built at Carroll."

Lenhart said he and others will evaluate the Eagles' football program at the end of the season and decide how to proceed.  However, the superintendent admits he would prefer to keep Valrie around for a long time.  "If he has a good year and we're moving forward we would like to keep moving forward with him."

Valrie has served as a Carroll High School assistant coach the past two years. Watters had been on staff as head coach for a single season.
