Democrats Lose Fight Over Redistricting

Democratic lawmakers have failed in the statehouse and in court, in their efforts to block new legislative districts.

The legislature is required by law to re-draw the new legislative districts this year.

Many democrats are unhappy with the new proposal form Republican lawmakers.  They're concerned that they would lead to a legislature that pits white Republicans against black Democrats.

Two legislative committee turned down redistricting plans proposed by Democrats, and a judge rejected a request from Democrats for a temporary restraining order delaying redistricting.
