A man has been arrested on charges he raped two Troy University coeds last month.  Andre Lamon Ellis, 35, of Troy was taken into custody Wednesday night.  He was jailed on one rape charge and expected to be charged with another by Thursday morning.

Police Sgt. Benny Scarbrough, in a prepared statement, said Ellis was arrested in the 200 block of Highway 231 but did not specify circumstances surrounding the arrest.  More information from either Scarbrough or Police Chief Jimmy Ennis is expected to be released Thursday morning.

The two girls, according to police reports, were attacked at a mobile home park March 26 in two separate incidents. One of the students came forward a few hours later while the other reported to officers she had been raped five days after she claims to have been assaulted.

The attacks prompted two meetings---at least one on campus---to warn students and others of possible dangers with the attacker on the loose. They were told to travel in groups whenever possible. Some gun stores reported an increase in sales following the attacks.

Ellis is also charged with failing to appear in court in connection with a theft case.
