"Yes we can! Dothan" kicked off its 2012 school tours Wednesday. The first stop was Grandview Elementary School. This year's tours gave city commissioners a closer look inside Dothan Schools. On hand were Commissioners Critt Snellgrove and Albert Kirkland.
School Principal Tamika Fleming showed off Grandview's learning techniques. The school focuses on what they call the learning style of the 21st century.
Teachers incorporate student response systems, interactive smart-boards, and computer exercises to their daily lesson plans.
Commissioners were surprised to find out fifth grade students are being housed in a trailer and have been for two years. Fortunately the students will soon move into their recently constructed fifth grade wing.Snellgrove said, " It's really cramped in there in that small area. I'm sure it's quite a challenge to teach in that environment."
Snellgrove and Kirkland said they were impressed with the behavior of the students, the cleanliness of the school, and the dedication of the teachers.
"I'm impressed with the staff and what they're doing here. I'm impressed with the volunteers out in the hall helping the students out," said Kirkland.
Commissioners also visited Beverley Magnet School and Dothan High school.
