When parents send their teens off for spring break they may worry about what kind of trouble they will get into at the beach. But the families of four local teenagers were surprised to find out their kids were involved in a high speed chase stretching all the way back to Columbus.

At eight o'clock Sunday morning, Eufaula Police began what would end up to be an hour long chase -- involving four law enforcement offices -- from their city to Columbus. It involved a 16 year old boy and three of his teenage friends. Once the car left the Eufaula city limits, Alabama State Troopers picked up the chase, traveling into Phenix City.

During the high speed chase the suspect was swerving in and out of traffic. The trooper, trying to avoid hitting another car, slammed on her brakes, lost control and ended up running into a concrete barrier. The suspect continued driving into Columbus.

A deputy with the Russell County Sheriff's Department then picked up the chase. Officials say at some points the young driver was going more than 130 miles per hour.

The chase eventually ended here, at the intersection of Shepherd Drive and Martin Luther King Boulevard. The 16 year old struck a utility pole and tried to run away, but was apprehended by police. After being treated at the Columbus Medical Center for a broken leg, he was placed under arrest and taken to the Youth Detention Facility.

The 16 year old suspect is facing several traffic charges, including leaving the scene of an accident and attempting to elude police. Only one of the three passengers suffered minor injuries.
