Geneva County Officials Considering Tag Increase To Fund New Jail

By: Stephen Crews
Updated: March 17, 2011
Officials in Geneva County are looking at the possibility of adding a fee to car tags to pay for a new county jail.

The Geneva County Commission discussed the possibility during their regular scheduled meeting on Monday. A figure of $18 was discussed among commissioners.

State Representative Donnie Chesteen attended the meeting and was asked about the issue by commissioners. He said that in his opinion the decision would be up to the voters of Geneva County to decide in the way of a vote.

A vote would not take place until the 2012 general election if commissioners decide to move forward with the idea.
