On 03/14/11 an Officer with the Marianna Police Department observed a black Chevrolet truck travelling north on Jefferson Street, which appeared to have an expired Florida tag. A check of the license plate revealed that the tag had been expired since 03/07/11; therefore, a traffic stop was conducted.
As the driver began to turn onto Kelson Ave from Jefferson Street, the driver door came open and the driver later identified as Clayton Drew Baxter was observed throwing an unknown object from the vehicle. As the officer approached the vehicle from the driver’s side, Baxter was observed putting what appeared to be a marijuana cigarette in his mouth. Baxter was asked to spit the cigarette out in which he complied. Baxter then grabbed a PowerAde bottle which contained a dark liquid substance and a white granular substance in the bottom of it and attempted to drink it. The bottle was removed from Baxter without incident and he was placed in custody.
The passenger, Kelly Ann Hudson was asked if she anything illegal on her person and she responded that she had “opium” in her pocket. The opium was found to wrapped in a white paper filter. Upon further investigation, Officers found that a clear bottle that had contained an unknown liquid had been dumped in the floor of the vehicle, which contained paper filters and red pill fragments.
The liquid contained a strong chemical odor, which emitted from the vehicle. Due to Hudson stating the liquids were a result of a shake and bake meth lab, the Jackson County Drug Task Force was contacted and asked to report to the scene. Hudson later stated she attempted to get rid of the liquid substance by pouring it in the floor of the truck, when she saw the emergency lights of the police vehicle. Hudson was then taken into custody. Aside from the shake and bake meth lab, several bags of various jewelry were also found throughout the vehicle as well other household items. All controlled substances were turned over to the Drug Task Force for processing, and all other items are currently being stored in evidence at the Marianna Police Department.
Clayton Baxter is being charged with possession of marijuana less than 20 grams, possession of drug paraphernalia, and tampering with evidence. Kelly Hudson is being charged with possession of a prescription without a prescription and tampering with evidence.
