Dothan PD Makes Arrest In Tuesday Evening Shooting

On March 1,
2011 Dothan Police Officers were patrolling the area of Ussery Street
when
four gunshots were heard. At 6:26 p.m. patrolmen advised dispatch shots
had been fired in the area and requested additional officers.
In less
than a minute, a victim suffering from gunshot wounds was located by
police in the 400 block of Ussery Street. The
victim was transported to a local hospital where he was kept overnight
for observation.
Investigators say he suffered from a gunshot wounds,
the wound was on his abdomen, and appeared to be superficial. The same
round also struck his right elbow causing minor
injury there as well. Police worked with the victim who was able to
identify the shooter as Derek Dewayne Moore.
After the suspect was identified a team of night shift patrolmen and investigators went to the suspects’ residence on East Lafayette Street and took him into custody.
· Derek Dewayne Moore, black male, 20 years of age, of East Lafayette Street was arrested and charged with Second Degree Assault with bond being established later today.
